Interview with Jani of Script Of Flood

finnbands: Please share your opinions, statements and feelings with us and talk about...
..."Cue to Exit": Expectations regarding both sides, those the listeners can have as well as those the band might have.
Jani: Well, I would lie if I say, that we only wish that it gets a good receiving from the fans and the critics. We hope that people realize that itīs the fucking best debut album ever!
I know that the listeners get a good quality produced hard rock album. Thereīs a very different kind of songs and thatīs where its strength lie. Itīs not a conventional 21st century rock album. The album as a whole leans back in the seventies or eighties when they made records that had different vibes on every song. It wasnīt so degenerated. In our case I think it got something to do with the fact that we had no big record company telling us what to do.
finnbands: ...your record deal: The long way to the deal and feelings you might have had while finally signing it.
Jani: Yeah, it was a long way but weīve learned so much during this journey that I have no regrets. I don't think that our debut album would have been this good as "Cue To Exit" is if we had done it like three years ago. I think that band is now ready. Weīre more solid and united as a band. Weīve also done a lot of gigs which has helped us a lot.
finnbands: ...the music video to "Replica": The shooting, the story and possible background informations.
Jani: The "Replica" music video is basically a promo video that introduces the band. It shows what the guys behind the music look like. Of course, thereīs a little twist in it so that it don't get boring. Lead vocalist Pexi is chasing this mysterious, or should I say transcendental girl in a brickwalled maze. It was shot here in Helsinki in an old industrial warehouse where they used to make trains and it looks amazing. It was done with very low budget but you donīt get that feeling looking at it because it was made with a professional gear and crew. Thanks to everybody who was involved. Especially the director P.J.Piippo and D.O.P Antti Ruusuvuori.
finnbands: ...touring: Will there be a tour in Finland and maybe abroad as well?
Jani: There definitely will be a tour in Finland and maybe a tour abroad as well. The tour dates for the Finnish tour will be announced soon on our website. Speaking of which is going under some series facelift and the new layout will be online soon.
finnbands: ...developement: Changes since your beginnings and probable developements of the members, the music and the band itself.
Jani: We have developed a lot as individual musicians as well as a band. Nowadays we focus more on the song rather than if it has a killer riff in it or a jaw breaking guitar wall. Of course, those things are still important but I think we test more that what suits the song. Since we have been around more than five years makes the band more confident and not so vulnerable for possible failures. If we play an awful gig or somebody has a bad day itīs not the end of the band.
finnbands: ...the lyrics: Inspirations and meanings, in general and for you personally.
Jani: Pexi would answer better on this one but I think that basically all the lyrics tell the same story. The struggle with life and itīs problems. Not necessary a love or in relationship but general relations with people. My personal favourite is "Bend and Break". I think it has very strong lyrics although itīs bit inflated in itīs cynicism but you need to overdo things that people get the point.
finnbands: ...the tracklist: Song that means most or something special to you.
Jani: Well "Replica" just happens to be my favourite track from the album. Itīs one of the strongest songs weīve ever done. It has a very catchy chorus although itīs not so straight hit song. The drums on that track are purely brilliant and Iīm very happy with the guitars too. It doesnīt give a full picture of what Script of Flood really stands for but what the hell, you need to bang your head off occasionally. Itīs really good live song. People usually go nuts when we play it.
finnbands: ...the stage: Fears and happenings.
Jani: I don't have any stage fears. Maybe itīs because Iīm not the front man and I don't have to entertain the crowds. I really enjoy playing live and the bigger the stage and the audience the more I enjoy. On those occasions I know weīre getting the message through. Weīve had some funny things happening on stage. Once I lost all of my guitarpicks on stage so I had to play the rest of the gig with a bottle cap. My guitar didnīt like it and was badly scratched. And once our drummer was still tying his shoelaces in the backstage as we were starting the show and wondering where the hell is this guy.
finnbands: ...idols: If someone would ask you about musically idols that had (and maybe still have) a huge influence to the music and to what it is nowadays: who would you mention?
Jani: I personally would mention Mr. Slash from Guns nīRoses. I really admire this guy and his style. He has really good technical abilities but he plays what the song requires. Nothing more. Although my playing has nothing to with Slashs I concider him as one of my idols. I think stylewise I got more to do with The Edge from U2. Maybe itīs the combination of these two different players that can be heard on a guitar track of a Script of Flood song.
finnbands: ...download vs. original CD: What would you choose and why?
Jani: Original of course. If you like music and are willing to put your hard earned cash on an album I think itīs cool that you have the record on a plastic disk rather than having some bits in cyberspace. And the artwork too. I have about 500 CDīs in my collection and I wouldnīt consider to dump any of them.
finnbands: ...the change of the climate: Boring topic and totally overrated or important and something to care about?
Jani: Totally overrated. Letīs just all buy bigger SUVīs and consume more natural resources. We really need all those air conditioners and electric gadgets. Hell, we canīt live without them! And who needs all that ice on north-pole anyway? Not me. I only need ice on my drink and I can get it from two stores high fridge that consumes more power than a little town in India.
finnbands: ...christmas: Celebration, presents and Santa Clause.
Jani: I think christmas purely as a vacation.
finnbands: ...people from Finland: drinking habbits, manners, prejudices, the truth.
Jani: Well, Finnish people tend to drink much. It must have something to do with the fact that the winters are long and depressing so the people here like to get something that lifts up their spirit. Alcohol is good at that. Itīs also good at causing diseases and social problems too so thatīs why itīs bit of a problem here. I think that the Finnish government is not doing a good job with the alcohol politics. They are focusing too much on the taxes and prices when they should focus more on the causes. But I think that the truth is that the younger people use alcohol more wisely than the older generation.
finnbands: ...one wish: What would it be?
Jani: Get rich and famous. Not necessary in that order.
finnbands: ...something: Your time for a little self-promotion or something totally different.
Jani: Check out the new "Replica" music video on our website www.scriptofflood.com and buy the new album "Cue To Exit". You can also help us to promote the band. Spread the word, establish street-teams and spam our banners on the internet. Thanks for the support. Wouldnīt be here without you!
