Interview mit Michael Monroe
Trash And Riot: First of all: Some say what you are doing at the moment is your solo project, some say it’s ‘Michael Monroe Band’. What would you call it? Michael Monroe: IT IS CALLED “MICHAEL MONROE” EVEN THOUGH IT IS REALLY A BAND.
Trash And Riot: How came that you joined ventures with Ginger?
Michael Monroe: I HAD KINDA KNOWN HIM FOR YEARS, BUT NOT THAT CLOSELY. WE JAMMED WITH THE WILDHEARTS IN FINLAND IN THE SUMMER 2009, AFTER WHICH WE HOOKED UP TO WRITE SONGS. ONE THING LED TO ANOTHER AND EVENTUALLY HE JOINED MY BAND.
Trash And Riot: And how did you choose the other musicians in the band?
Michael Monroe: ME AND SAMI STARTED PUTTING THE BAND TOGETHER AFTER WE HOOKED UP BACK IN THE SUMMER 2009. THE REST OF THE BAND SHAPED UP BASED ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND EVENTS AROUND US.
Trash And Riot: What does it feel like to share the stage with Sami Yaffa again after a very long time?
Michael Monroe: IT FEELS BRILLIANT!
Trash And Riot: Talking about “Sensory Overdrive”. Why did you choose this title for the cd?
Michael Monroe: SAMI SUGGESTED IT AND IT WAS THE PERFECT TITLE FOR THIS ALBUM.
Trash And Riot: Is there any song on this album that means more to you as the other songs? If so: why?
Michael Monroe: ALL OF THEM ARE IMPORTANT TO ME BUT MAYBE “TRICK OF THE WRIST” EVEN MORE SO THAN THE OTHERS SINCE THE LYRICS KINDA REFLECT MY OWN LIFE EXPERIENCE.
Trash And Riot: Have you been listening to the cd in a whole? If yes: how often? If no: why not?
Michael Monroe: I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO IT ALMOST EVERYDAY. EVEN AFTER THE MIXING PROCESS LAST DECEMBER WHEN I “HAD TO” LISTEN TO IT SEVERAL TIMES A DAY FOR WEEKS, I’M STILL NOT TIRED OF HEARING IT. IT’S A GREAT ALBUM AND I LOVE IT!
Trash And Riot: What do you think how often can one listen to “Sensory Overdrive” in repeat before getting bored?
Michael Monroe: I WOULD SAY QUITE OFTEN. I’VE LISTENED TO IT TONS OF TIMES AND I’M STILL NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING BORED WITH IT. THAT’S A GOOD SIGN.
Trash And Riot: Slash has been joining you on a couple of gigs. Can you imagine to guest star on his tour?
Michael Monroe: I WOULD LOVE TO TOUR WITH HIM! WORKING WITH SLASH IN ANY CAPACITY IS ALWAYS A GREAT PLEASURE.
Trash And Riot: Have you ever thought of cooperating together for an album? Slash’s last album had an “all star” line up. Wouldn’t there be space for Michael Monroe on the next one maybe?
Michael Monroe: THAT WOULD BE VERY COOL BUT IT’S UP TO SLASH, OF COURSE.
Trash And Riot: Or maybe him guest starring on your next cd?
Michael Monroe: THAT WOULD BE GREAT TOO.
Trash And Riot: With Hanoi Rocks you have been touring together with Wednesday 13. Can you imaging to tour with them again? As far as I know Wednesday is a big fan of you.
Michael Monroe: YEAH, WEDNESDAY IS GREAT, A VERY NICE GUY. TOURING WITH HIM WAS COOL AND FUN AND I WOULDN’T MIND DOING IT AGAIN.
Trash And Riot: You have been living in different parts of the world, at least Finland, England and the United States. What are the pros of the different locations?
Michael Monroe: EACH PLACE HAS ITS GOOD POINTS AND NOT SO GOOD POINTS. IT ALSO DEPENDS ON YOUR WORK SITUATION AND WHAT’S GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE. RIGHT NOW TURKU, FINLAND IS THE BEST PLACE FOR ME TO LIVE.
Trash And Riot: What are the contras?
Michael Monroe: LIKE I SAID, THERE’S GOOD AND BAD IN EVERY PLACE.
Trash And Riot: At the moment you are living in Turku. Why did you choose the old town as your home and not maybe Helsinki where it would be easier to keep in touch with other musicians from the Finnish scene at least?
Michael Monroe: TURKU IS REALLY NOT THAT FAR FROM HELSINKI. BESIDES, THERE’S NOT THAT MUCH MORE OF A “SCENE” IN HELSINKI THAN THERE IS IN TURKU.
Trash And Riot: I guess your band mates don’t live anywhere near you but around the world. How do you keep in touch?
Michael Monroe: TELEPHONE AND THE INTERNET – SKYPE AND E-MAILS.
Trash And Riot: This is a question to Ginger, maybe he can answer or you know about it: Is there anything new in the planning about The Wildhearts? “Chutzpah!” has been a while.
Michael Monroe: I CANNOT ANSWER THAT, YOU’LL HAVE TO ASK HIM.
Trash And Riot: Last but not least (I guess you are bored of these kind of questions but your fans over here would really like to know): Are there any concrete plans to come to Germany in the near future?
Michael Monroe: I’M NOT BORED WITH THAT QUESTION AT ALL, ON THE CONTRARY! I’M ACTUALLY VERY CONCERNED ABOUT PLAYING IN GERMANY. I’VE NEVER PLAYED THERE ENOUGH AND I REALLY WANT TO. WE’RE STILL WORKING ON IT AND DEFINITELY TRYING TO GET ON A GREAT TOUR IN GERMANY. OPENING FOR MOTÖRHEAD, AS WE DID LAST NOVEMBER IN THE UK, WOULD’VE BEEN PERFECT SINCE THEIR TOUR CONTINUED TO GERMANY AFTER THE UK, BUT THEY HAD ALREADY BOOKED AN OPENING ACT THERE BEFORE WE MANAGED TO ASK. HOPEFULLY WE’LL PLAY THERE SOON AND AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU SOON!
MICHAEL MONROE
