Interview with Damian Cullen Band

Damian Cullen Band just released their single and video "Popcorn Girl". This was the right moment for us to ask them a few questions.
Read what we got back in text from without the question / answer paragraphes.

The Damian Cullen Band's debut gig was on 1st of January 2010, about a year & 6 months ago so, still a fairly new band to a lot off you. The band’s debut single is all about Fun! Fun! Fun!

The song "Popcorn Girl" was wrote & recorded as a demo by Damian Cullen & Andi Manloney back in 2007. The song was worked on by the Damian Cullen Band as a whole & now contains all the main essentials to make a great popular hit: hooks, melody, harmonies & wonderful catchy sing-a-long chorus. The single was released the good old fashion way: CD format with 2 great tracks "popcorn Girl" & "I'm O.K." (limited edition) & every single copy signed I might add. The songs are now available to buy & download on iTunes etc.
The Damian Cullen Band has also brought out a band spanking new video to promote their "Popcorn Girl" single. If you haven't heard or seen Damian Cullen Band live, you are missing out big time!!! The hardest working band with no recording company, management, backers or booking agents. Yet one of the best new bands to come out of Finland. Looks/Style/Songs/Attitude & more glamor than top shelf magazine!

Why the move from London to Helsinki Damian? I was getting so discontent with pubs, music venues, rock clubs etc closing down in London & no or, very little alternative to them. My band "Subzeros" had no motivation, my 65 year old landlady turn into a stalker & my best friend fell & was left brain damaged, "a cabbage" for the want off a better word? He's now passed away. It was hard leaving all my friends & loved ones behind but I felt needed a change, a break & just to get away from everything. London has some good bands to see "at times" but very little rock clubs. It was all getting so boring! Boredom leads to: more alcohol excess & drug abuse! As Guns N' Roses once said... IT'S SO EASY! The rock scene & musicianship as a whole has always been great in Finland, so many wonderful bands: Hanoi Rocks, Smack etc.

I arrived in Helsinki late 2009 & it was the coldest winter in over twenty years I was told? I had to get out & meet people, try make new friends & most important "I have & put a band together"! So, How do you do this? where do you go? SIMPLE! To a bar. I found likeminded people with a great passion for music & all very motivated. I gave them some songs to learn & a few weeks later we're playing our debut gig in Helsinki's Gloria arena to around 300+ people. The audience seemed really like us. Misty (the guitarist)/manager started booking us gigs all over Finland etc. hours & hours off promoting the DCB on the net Myspace, Facebook blar blar blar & trying to spread the word! It's a lot of hard work & I hope we get there? The video "popcorn girl" is an advertisement & promotion to help sell the Damian Cullen Band as well as the song to you! We hope all you readers will check it out & like it, if so? The Damian Cullen Band has a few other songs and self made videos worth checking: "Shangrila America", "Supersonic", "You're an angel", "Turn the lights down low", "Wonderland" & lot's of live clips.

When you compare the British and the Finnish music scene: what are the differences?
In the UK the kids are brainwashed by the radio and they are playing dance music, boy bands and load of shite. It’s all mainstream. In Finland you can walk on almost any bar and there’s rock classics playing on the background. In a nutshell Finland rocks.

Is there any musician anywhere on this world you'd like to work with?
In the past and present I’ve been fortunate enough to work with great musicians. I would love to have Dave Grohl to produce the first Damian Cullen LP, have Keith Richards to play on one of the track, Amy Winehouse on the backing vocals and do a duet with Pink. But what are the chances of that ah ah ah.
