It took a while until Widescreen Mode from Riihimäki/Finland released their album "Until the End", but now it is released, finally!
In 2005, the band finally made steady progress with a pair of four-song demos. The demos earned great reviews. Widescreen Mode played important festivals, supporting bands like Paradise Lost, The Cardigans, Anathema, and Die Krupps. In 2006, Widescreen Mode made it to the final round of MTV Nordic's unsigned competition out of 1,700 bands. Interestingly, thanks to the internet, Widescreen Mode has even more fans outside of Finland. The band has amassed a community of more than 65,000 fans worldwide on MySpace. "It's great to see how well our music has received around the world", says Janne Aaltonen (drums). The music has been well received at home, too. Widescreen Mode's first single "Everlasting Bomb" reached #1 on the official Finnish download charts this summer, and has received airplay on the national rock radio stations such as Radio Rock and YleX.
With these 12 songs Widescreen Mode have released a great rock/metal album. Their music is somehow melancholic and melodic and yet harsh and metal-like, some songs are even quite aggressive while others are slow. A great mix and balance between hard and soft can be found on the album. I knew "Everlasting Bomb", "Not Alright", "She's Lying" and "We Don't Need Your War" from the demos before. In my opinion all are songs easy to sing along and perfect to get stuck in your head very easily. The song "And We Both Know" is a very slow song accompanied by piano. Really nice. Somehow Widescreen Mode's music reminds me of Suburban Tribe.
You should really take a minute and take a look at their album cover and think about it.
Great music, great band, until the end!
