Schon während des Lesens habe ich darüber nachgedacht, WIE ich über dieses Buch schreiben werde. Wie immer machte ich mir Notizen den Inhalt betreffend, aber eigentlich ist dieser kurz und knackig in der Beschreibung oben zusammen gefasst.
„It’s So Easy – and other lies“ war die zigste (Auto)Biographie eines Gunners – oder auch anderen Rockers, die ich las. Ich erwartete nicht viel Neues zu erfahren, einfach eine andere Sicht der Dinge.
Und die bietet Duff definitiv. Rückblickend ist er der Erste, der nicht nur Axl Vorwürfe zum Scheitern DER Guns’n’Roses macht, sondern sich eben auch selbst nicht aus der Verantwortung zieht und dazu steht, nicht alles richtig gemacht bzw. sich überhaupt gekümmert zu haben. Allerdings lernte er aus diesen Fehlern und so gingen Velvet Revolver später auch ohne Scott Wieland auf die Bühne, wenn Stage Time war und der Sänger sich nicht blicken ließ. Was wäre gewesen, hätten GNR dies gemacht? Aber darüber nachzudenken wäre Zeitverschwendung.

Insgesamt brachte mich Duff, der sein Buch selbst schrieb und die Erfahrungen zum Schreiben als berufliche Tätigkeit unter anderem aus den Kolumnen für Seatle Weekly und Playboy zieht, mit seiner Geschichte zum Nachdenken – über das Leben als solches, das Leben im Musikzirkus und auch das Thema Alkoholismus.
Keiner der diversen Bios war bislang so inspirierend oder fesselnd geschrieben wie diese hier.
Ein absolutes Muss in einem anständiger Rocker – Buchregal.

Bislang ist das Buch nicht auf Deutsch erschienen.
